Intevac Introduces Versatile New Thin Film Deposition Platform

Tue, July 8 2014

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Intevac, Inc. (NASDAQ:IVAC) today introduced the INTEVAC MATRIX™ thin film processing platform, specifically developed to address multiple applications in the vacuum coating industry.

“For over twenty years Intevac has been a world-leading provider of high-productivity thin film PVD deposition systems for hard disk drive media manufacturing. INTEVAC MATRIX enhances our core capabilities in high-throughput deposition technology with a substrate independent platform that provides versatility for broader applications of thin film deposition,” commented Wendell Blonigan, president and chief executive officer. “We recently announced orders for advanced solar cell manufacturing and for protective coatings used in various mobile devices, each leveraging Intevac’s core PVD sputtering technologies. INTEVAC MATRIX will be the key platform to extend our production-proven thin film deposition technology into new adjacent markets.”

The INTEVAC MATRIX is enabled by a carrier-based transport system that can accommodate various size substrates. The system can be configured with multiple thin film deposition technologies for in-line sequential processing; enables double-sided deposition without breaking vacuum; and can deposit in both horizontal or vertical substrate orientation. The INTEVAC MATRIX platform is engineered to produce the highest quality films at the lowest cost of ownership.
